Autumn in NY + fresh picked apples = heaven.
6-8 c. apples, peeled and sliced
3 Tbl. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. oatmeal (I prefer old-fashioned rather than instant)
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped pecans (optional)
1/2 c. butter, melted
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving
Combine apples, 3 Tbl. sugar, and 1 tsp. of cinnamon in a bowl. Transfer to a greased baking dish (this amount usually fits perfectly in my 7 x 11 pan). Thoroughly combine remaining ingredients (using your hands if necessary) and crumble over the top the of the apples. Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples mixture starts bubbling. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream (or cold/reheated for breakfast the next morning :).
An autumn classic. Sounds delish!
ReplyDeleteWe just went apple picking today. I honestly can say it's my favorite thing to do in the whole world! I might just have to make this apple crisp tomorrow evening.
ReplyDeleteOoooo, I am so excited. We went apple picking last monday and I have 2 bushels of apples that I need to get working on. This is a breakfast crisp, right? :)
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! 40 lbs of apples are sitting on my counter. My family will love this.
ReplyDeleteMy kids helped me make this. They love it. This morning someone mentioned that they once ate a blackberry apple crisp that was really good, so I decided to add 2 cups of blackberries. I added an additional TBSP of sugar to compensate for the tartness of the blackberries, and I also added 1 cup of pecans instead of 1/2 cup. I had a couple of bites and it was very good!
